Sweeton Bio
I’ve been rockin’ the Nashville, TN area radio waves in
some form or fashion for over 23 years now.
I grew up in Lebanon and still make my home in Wilson County on a little
spread between Mt. Juliet and Lebanon. Did
ya know that Greg and Duane Allman went to school in Lebanon at Castle Heights
Military Academy? They used to stay
in trouble all the time for climbing out on the dorm roof at night and playing
their guitars.
Over at McClain Elementary School, I was the one getting
into trouble for talking all the time and now it blows my mind that I actually
get paid for running my mouth.
My first radio gig was at a country FM in Carthage,
Tennessee where I did afternoons while attending Vol State in Gallatin.
I even met former VP Al Gore back then. Of course he was a Congressman at
the time and no, we didn’t inhale – at least not together.
After transferring to M.T.S.U. in Murfreesboro, TN (Go Blue
Raiders!), I took on afternoons at Jazz 89, a really cool college radio station
and was there until it was time to venture out into the real world where I
landed a gig at WSM-FM doing overnights.
I then moved up to afternoons at Magic 96 (which is now
Oldies 96), and eventually a morning co-host gig with Phil Valentine (I still
can’t believe I worked with that right winger but he was a nice guy and always
a gentleman).
After another spin on the Nashville radio dial I landed at
WGFX – 104.5 back in ’89 or so when the station was Classic Rock 104.5 The
Fox. Now those were some really fun
radio days (daze? J)
working on the “The Homegrown Morning Show” with funny guys Tom Bootle and
Rob Harder. My husband Rusty and I
also started writing parodies and comedy bits for the Premiere
Radio Networks during that time.
Since my most recent stint at WKDF/WGFX, I’ve been busy with some specialty radio and internet
programming, writing, producing, voice work and more. When I’m not working or traveling, I hang out in the
garden, do some photography stuff and plunk on the guitar every now and then.
And life is good…
